CDPAP (Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program) is a program Medicaid which enables the people that have registered to manage their own health care independently. This program was developed so that those people who have chronic diseases or disable to get assistance to get the help from home care or the services of the nurses.
Any person that is receiving the services under CDPAP is known as a consumer rather than a client or a patient as it is used in hospitals and other health centers. A person receiving the services of CDPAP is referred to as a consumer because he or she is the one that is responsible for determining and implementing the care for his or herself.
The consumer is the one who determines what and how the care services will be admixture. The consumer is the one that is responsible for hiring the person that will be responsible for taking his or her care.
The consumer is the only one who has the mandate to fire the caregiver for any reason or any time that the consumer may feel like. The consumer is the one that is responsible for taking care of any emerging issues and dealing with any problem that may arise.
A registered consumer can look for any person to be a caregiver even if it is a relative as long as the consumer have the trust in the person. It is important to know that as a consumer you can hire anybody that you want as a caregiver, as under the CDPAP it is not mandatory for a caregiver to have any certificates and training which a requirement for home caregivers and providers is.
Under CDPAP the consumer has the freedom to choose any caregiver of his or her choice either a friend, a family member, a close friend any person that they can trust or feel free to have their services. It is important to note that for a consumer who is registered under the CDPAP it is against the rules to hire any caregiver who is a legal responsible adult such as a spouse or a parents.
As a consumer who is registered under the CDPAP, you can be able to get a caregiver still through the caregiver licensed agency where the caregiver that you will get will help you in all the responsibilities that you will direct him or her.
In an event the consumer is unable to take the responsibility regarding their own care they can arrange to have a designated representative who has the ability to administer the care to the recipient. It is a must that the designated representative should get the approval from the social services
